Spooky Spiderweb Taco Dip

Prep time: 20 minutes | Cook time: 0 minutes | Servings: 8

Ingredients

  • 1 (15-ounce) can no-salt-added black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt, divided (or unsweetened dairy-free yogurt)
  • 2 teaspoons low-sodium taco seasoning
  • 1 cup chunky salsa, drained well
  • 2 ripe avocados
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • ½ cup diced tomatoes
  • ¼ cup finely diced red onion
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro, optional
  • 3–4 pitted black olives, for the spider
  • Whole-grain tortilla chips, for serving

Instructions

  1. Mash the drained black beans with the taco seasoning and 2 tablespoons of the Greek yogurt. Spread in the bottom of a shallow, round serving dish.
  2. Spread a thin layer of Greek yogurt over the beans, reserving about ¼ cup for the spiderweb.
  3. Spoon the well-drained salsa evenly over the yogurt.
  4. Mash the avocados with lime juice, then gently spread over the salsa.
  5. Transfer the reserved yogurt to a small piping bag or zip-top bag with a tiny corner snipped off. Pipe several concentric circles over the avocado layer. Drag a clean toothpick from the center toward the outer edge at regular intervals to form a web.
  6. Make a spider from a halved black olive for the body and thin olive slices for the legs. Place on the web.
  7. Scatter diced tomatoes, red onion, and optional cilantro around the edge. Serve promptly with whole-grain tortilla chips.

Helpful Tips

Drain the salsa thoroughly so the layers stay distinct. For the neatest spiderweb, use thick, plain yogurt. Prepare the bean and salsa layers ahead, then add the avocado, web, and fresh toppings shortly before serving to minimize browning. Keep the dip refrigerated until serving; do not leave it at room temperature for more than 2 hours.

Why we love it: Black beans provide fiber, while avocado contributes unsaturated fats. It’s a fun, satisfying alternative to richer party dips.
